How to build a school on the other side of the world through social media
The Danish entrepreneur, Nils Gisli, shared his experience of working in NGOs and with social media with the students of Social Work at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili
"We can not help everyone, but everyone can help someone", this was one of the entrepreneur, Nils Gisli's, slogans during his lecture in front of 80 first year Social Work students within the class of "Communication and Information Society".
The speaker is the founder of the NGO, HOPE Project Denmark, and owner of the communication, marketing and coaching company, N:GMC. He is an expert in social media, video, television and event organisation, thanks to his long professional career in these fields, and, in addition, he has worked in the NGO Doctors Without Borders.
During the speech, he shared his experience in the field of humanitarian work emphasising HOPE Project Denmark. He explained in details how this organisation uses social media and event organisation to develop the project of building a school in the small village of Santa Fe in the Philippines.
The lecture gave the students a global vision on different strategies and possibilities that the social media give you to develop projects of all kinds, but specially emphasising the work of HOPE Project Denmark doing humanitarian work in the Philippines from Denmark through social media. In addition, Nils Gisli showed that it is not necessary to have an enormous structure to be able to develop charity projects; it is also possible by gathering a group of friends motivated to help others.
Nils Gisli ended his lecture by encouraging the Social Work students to follow their dreams with the slogan "dreams are not supposed to be dreamt, they are supposed to be lived". Let's see if the assignments the students are developing in class are going to become real projects in a close future.
