The Department of Communication Studies holds an international seminar on framing and metaphors
The framing and metaphors have been the centre of debate at the international half-day seminar ""Media framing and metaphor use in conflict: politics, science, sport" celebrated at Campus Catalunya of the University Rovira i Virgili (URV) this morning. Researchers from the University of Stirling, Antwerp and Rovira i Virgili have shared their research in framing and metaphors with the around twenty attendees at the international seminar organized by Dr. Enric Castelló from the Department of Communication Studies, URV.
After the welcome speech held by Dr. Iolanda Tortajada, Head of the Department of Communication Studies, Dr. Enric Castelló has introduced the seminar's subject matter: framing, metaphors and discourses in conflicts. Subsequently, Dr. Marina Dekavalla from the University of Stirling has presented her research on the Scottish media and the framing of the 2014 Referendum.
The framing of the debate on genetically modified foods has been the seminar's second subject matter. Dr. Pieter Maeseele from the University of Antwerp has shared his critical viewpoint on the Media and depolitization in agricultural biotechnology. The seminar's last presentation was by Dr. Bernat López from the University Rovira i Virgili, who has applied the framing to cycling, doping and the media.
The seminar has finalized with a closing round table moderated by Dr. Jordi Farré. The round table has led to an enriching debate among the attendees at the seminar.
